There’s no escaping it; Barbiecore has taken over the internet, which, in 2023, may be as good as taking over real life. You’d have to scroll a long time on sites now to get to the point before all content was about stealing Barbie’s style (this site pleads very guilty), but if you are still reading, then clearly, you haven’t gotten enough.

Collectively, we—the ones who identify as fashion interested and chronically online—have made a study of the hair, makeup, and sartorial choices of Margot-Robbie-as-Barbie. We’ve dug up her skincare secrets, contemplated buying more pink accessories, and wondered if we have the budget to turn our homes into a Barbie Dreamhouse. Now, for the finishing touch to our Barbiecore transformation, we’ve trawled the internet to find the most iconic of Barbie’s jewellery featured in the film. Most of them are dupes, but a couple of items are the real thing.

While her home, car, and several outfits all look like they’ve fallen into a can of paint in her favourite colour, Barbiecore jewellery in the movie is, surprisingly, seldom pink—probably a styling strategy to break up the constant deluge of the bubblegum shade. But even without the pink, it’s still unmistakably Barbie—think kitschy, fun, and always to theme.

At the beach, it’s a seashell necklace and anchor earrings; for a disco dance party, oversized dangling gold earrings complete the look. Barbie doesn’t do subtle, so pile on the rhinestones and embrace the plastic (fantastic). And while most of the pieces are costume jewellery, be prepared to splurge if you want to stay authentic to the movie. Jacqueline Durran, the film’s costume designer has revealed in an exclusive with Vogue that “if Margot wears anything that we (the team) didn’t make, it’s pretty much Chanel”.

In the now-famous scene from the trailer, Barbie tells Ken that she has nothing big planned for the night, just “a giant blowout party with all the Barbies, and planned choreography, and a bespoke song”. Lucky fans who were at the right place, at the right time, got a sneak peek of what is to come in June last year, when Robbie and Gosling filmed the movie’s iconic rollerblading scene at the crowded Venice Beach in California. The pair’s fabulous matching outfits were inspired by the “Hot Skatin’ Barbie” released in 1994. Robbie accessorised with a pair of neon hoop earrings—Swarovski’s Lucent line is reminiscent of the style.
