BARTOW, Fla. — This weekly report is prepared by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to inform the public about upcoming road work in Southwest Florida. Below are the work schedule and lane closure locations for major state road projects.

Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

As a reminder, travelers can visit www.FL511.com or dial “511” from their phone to learn about traffic conditions on major roadways across the state.

If you know before you go, you can plan accordingly and save time and money.

CHARLOTTE COUNTY

SR 776/El Jobean Road from Myakka River to Willow Bend Drive: Construction project: Crews will mill and resurface, widen medians, replace sidewalk, improve drainage, and replace signing and pavement markings along SR 776/El Jobean Road.

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours throughout the duration of the project, except for the hours between 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The expected project completion is early 2024.

US 41 from Midway Boulevard to Paulson Drive: Maintenance project: Motorists should expect intermittent outside northbound closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays, while crews perform geotechnical work.

US 41/Tamiami Trail from Payne Street to Rio Villa Drive: Construction: Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours while crews resurface the roadway, construct curb, gutter, sidewalk, lanes widenings, drainage, signage, streetlight, and signalization improvements.

Motorists should expect intermittent southbound and northbound lane closures from Aqui Esta Drive to Payne Street during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

Motorists should use caution as crews work on the roadway. The expected project completion is late fall 2023.

US 17 from Piper Road to West of Golf Course Road: Construction: Crews will be constructing new turn lanes as well as milling and resurfacing existing roadway on US 17. Motorists should expect intermittent eastbound lane closures during daytime and nighttime hours. Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic and possible delays.

COLLIER COUNTY

I-75 from mile marker 76 to the mile marker 100/toll plaza: Construction project: Crews will widen and resurface the roadway as well as construct new guardrail and animal crossings.

Motorists should expect intermittent south and northbound lane closures during daytime hours throughout the duration of the project.

Motorists should use caution as crews work on the roadway. The expected project completion is spring 2024.

I-75 from the Broward County line to the east of the bridge over Wildlife Crossing #15: Construction project: Crews will resurface the roadway and construct new guardrail and animal crossings.

Motorists should expect intermittent south and northbound lane closures during daytime hours throughout the duration of the project.

Motorists should use caution as crews work on the roadway. The expected project completion is spring 2024.

US 41 at Oasis Visitor Center: Construction project: Crews will construct an eastbound left turn lane from US 41 at the Oasis Visitor Center. Additional improvements include lane widening, guardrail installation, resurfacing, and new signage and pavement markings at the intersection.

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures and shifts during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the duration of the project.

Motorists should use caution as crews work on the roadway. The expected project completion is early 2024.

Shoulder closures and bicyclists flagging operation during daytime working operations.

US 41/Tamiami Trail from Davis Boulevard to Courthouse Shadows: Construction project: Improvements include adding mid-block crossings and pedestrian signals, milling, and resurfacing, and making sidewalk repairs within the project limits.

Motorists should expect lane closures during day and nighttime/overnight hours.

Expected completion is fall 2023.

US 41 from 10th Street North to 9th Street North: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews construct underground utilities. A temporary traffic signal will be installed during construction. Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic and possible delays.

US 41 from Tomato Road to CR 92: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews construct a temporary bypass road. Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic and possible delays.

US 41 at the Treviso Bay Entrance east of Johns Street: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews make turn lane modifications. Motorists should use caution as crews work on the roadway.

SR 84/Davis Boulevard from Ospreys Landing to West Crown Point Boulevard: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent westbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews replace underground utilities. Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic and possible delays.

SR 670 9th Street North to Tamiami Trail: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews construct a turn lane. Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic. Motorists should expect to work during weekends from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Copeland Avenue from Chokoloskee Bridge to Broadway Avenue: Construction project: Crews will construct sidewalk on the east side of Copeland Avenue from Chokoloskee Bridge to Broadway Avenue. Crews will install temporary signalization within the project.

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with possible flagging operations throughout the duration of the project.

Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway. The expected project completion is early 2024.

US 41 From East of Whistler’s Cove Boulevard to West of Collier Boulevard: Construction: There are currently no lane closures scheduled for next week. The Contractor will only close turning lanes as needed.

DESOTO COUNTY

SR 72 from Sarasota County Line to SW Rodgers Avenue: Construction project: Crews will be making improvements to SR 72 including cross slope correction, milling and resurfacing, shoulder reconstruction, miscellaneous drainage, and signing and pavement markings. During construction there will be single lane closures on SR 72 from the Sarasota County Line to SW Rodgers Avenue.

Motorists should expect intermittent single lane closures in both directions on SR 72 from the Sarasota County line to SW Rodgers Avenue.

Please use caution in the area and allow extra travel time. Estimated completion is fall 2023.

GLADES COUNTY

US 27 from Fisheating Creek to the Highlands County line: Construction project: Crews will be milling and resurfacing US 27 from Fisheating Creek to the Highlands County line. Other improvements include widening, guardrail, and signing and pavement markings. The bridge over Fisheating Creek will be repaired/rehabilitated including pile jacketing and spall repairs. During construction daytime lane closures may occur on US 27.

Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime intermittent lane closures on US 27 throughout the project limits until project completion.

Please use caution in the construction zone and watch for workers in the work zone. Estimated completion is spring 2024.

SR 78 Sidewalks at Various Locations: Construction project: Crews will be installing five-foot sidewalks with a retaining wall along the south side of SR 78 from Access Road to Ben Street and from Chobee Street to Lake Drive and from Linda Road to Buckhead Ridge RV & Boat Storage. Other improvements include signing and pavement markings and drainage improvements. During construction daytime lane closures will occur on SR 78.

Motorists should expect daily intermittent lane closures on SR 78 throughout the project limits until project completion.

Please use caution in the construction zone and watch for workers in the work zone. Estimated completion is fall 2023.

SR 78 in Ortona: Maintenance project: Crews will be performing routine maintenance of the shoulder area of the roadway with lane closures. Travelers can expect flaggers and maintenance personnel on Tuesday, August 22 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

HARDEE COUNTY

None at this time.

HENDRY COUNTY

US 27 southbound in the area of Flaghole Road. Maintenance project: Crews will shift traffic to one lane on US 27 near Flaghole Road. on Wednesday, August 23, and on Thursday, August 24, to allow crews and heavy equipment to install landscaping. Crews are expected to be working in the area from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. both days, weather permitting.

SR 78 in Ortona. Maintenance project: Crews will be performing routine maintenance of the shoulder area of the roadway with lane closures. Travelers can expect flaggers and maintenance personnel on Tuesday, August 22, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

HIGHLANDS COUNTY

US 27 from Glades County line to Polk County line: Maintenance contract project: Crews will be mowing and picking up litter along US 27 northbound and southbound from the Glades County line to the Polk County line. Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

US 27 at South Lakeview Road: Construction project: Crews will be widening US 27 at South Lakeview Road for off-set left turns. Additional work includes constructing asphalt bulb-outs and installing a traffic signal at the intersection of US 27 and South Lakeview Road. Please use caution and watch for crews working in the work zone.

Motorists should expect intermittent single daytime lane closures on northbound and/or southbound US 27 at Lakeview Road Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Estimated completion is summer 2023.

US 27 from south of SR 70 to north of SR 70: Construction project: Intersection improvements. Crews will be reconstructing the intersection with concrete pavement, resurfacing SR 70 and US 27 near the intersection, shoulder work, drainage improvements, signalization, and lighting, and signing and pavement markings.

Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime intermittent lane closures on US 27 and SR 70 near the intersection.

SR 70 eastbound and westbound traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed travel lanes.

The driveways for Circle K and the BP Station will be impacted while crews place concrete at the intersection. Motorists will need to access Circle K from SR 70 and BP from US 27. The Circle K driveway off US 27 will be utilized as an Exit Only and the BP driveway off SR 70 will be utilized as an Exit Only.

Estimated completion is summer 2023.

LEE COUNTY

Pine Island Road Causeway and Bridge Permanent Repairs: Construction project: As part of the Emergency Restoration of the Pine Island Road Causeway and Bridge, crews will be working in the project boundaries along CR 78 Pine Island Road from west of Little Pine Island Bridge (Bridge No. 120111) to West of Shoreview Drive.

1. UPDATED: Crews are working through the week, including weekends, to complete the south side wall. Pile driving on the south side is complete and the contractor is working on construction of the cap.

2. UPCOMING: A traffic shift is expected by mid-September, moving work to the opposite side of the road so crews can begin driving sheet pilings on the north side.

3. Motorists can expect temporary, intermittent lane closures with flagging operations.

4. Pedestrians and bicyclists are not permitted within the construction zone.

5. Noise from construction equipment in the area is to be expected.

6. Please use caution and watch for workers and construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway.

7. Please be patient and plan for additional travel time as it may be slower than usual in the area.

Sanibel Causeway Emergency Restoration: As a part of the Emergency Restoration of the Sanibel Causeway, crews continue work on McGregor Boulevard and the Sanibel Causeway from Port Comfort Road to Sanibel Island. The causeway islands surrounding the temporary roadway are an active work zone and are currently closed for public access, including from the water.

During the overnight/nighttime hours on Monday, August 21, crews will shift the travel lanes from the second causeway island to the temporary roadway. Motorists should expect delays during the overnight hours. This shift is necessary for crews to raise the elevation of the existing road.

From 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. from Wednesday, August 23 through Friday, August 25 motorists should expect a portion of the right turn lane to Punta Rassa closed for crews to complete utility work. Right turns will still be permitted.

As work progresses, motorists should expect isolated flagging operations on the Causeway during the nighttime/overnight hours of 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Crews continue driving sheet pile on the causeway islands.

Crews continue constructing the temporary roadway on the causeway island closest to span A. Once vehicles shift to use the temporary road, crews will raise the elevation of the existing, final roadway approximately 2 feet. Vehicles will be shifted back to the existing location once the final roadway is completed.

Motorists should expect numerous dump trucks entering and exiting Punta Rassa. They are delivering armor stone to be used throughout the project.

Motorists should expect periodic daytime delays for delivery/removal of materials and equipment, and for crews to remove trash from the roadway.

Many oversized vehicles are crossing the causeway to assist with recovery efforts on the island. Please be patient as travel may be slower than usual. Bicyclists are encouraged to utilize another mode of transportation to travel the causeway and pedestrians are not permitted on the Sanibel Causeway. Expect shoulder closures throughout the project.

I-75 Wrong Way Driver at various locations: Construction project: Crews are constructing Wrong Way Driver systems at various intersections along I-75 at the following locations: I-75 at Terminal Access Road, Daniels Parkway, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Luckett Road, and Bayshore Road.

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the duration of the project.

Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway. The expected project completion is early 2024.

I-75 at Colonial Boulevard (mile marker 136): Construction project: Crews begin construction on the I-75 at Colonial Boulevard Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) Project. Other improvements along Colonial Boulevard include a Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) at the intersection of Six Mile Cypress Parkway/Ortiz Avenue and a Superstreet intersection at the Colonial Boulevard/Forum Boulevard intersection. I-75 will also be widened to provide an auxiliary lane in each direction from Colonial Boulevard to SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The off-ramps at Colonial Boulevard DDI and the northbound off-ramps at SR 82 will have emergency stopping sites.

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on I-75 and the on and off ramps at SR 884/Colonial Boulevard during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of construction.

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on SR 884/Colonial Boulevard during the nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway throughout the duration of the project. The expected completion date is mid-2024.

US 41/Cleveland Avenue Wrong Way Driver at various locations: Construction project: Crews are constructing Wrong Way Driver systems at various intersections along US 41 at the following locations: US 41 at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and First Street.

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway. The expected project completion is early 2024.

US 41 from south of Hickory Drive to Emerson Square Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing and widening the roadway along with reconstructing medians at Hickory Drive, San Carlos Boulevard, Shadow Creek Boulevard, and Harborage Drive.

Crews will continue widening efforts on the outside lanes, both Southbound and Northbound.

Pedestrians should expect sidewalk detours as crews construct improvements to sidewalk and signals.

TECO Gas will be working along the West side of US 41 at Sanibel Boulevard, installing a new gas main.

TECO Gas will also be locating their gas line at Constitution Boulevard, the east side of US 41.

US 41/Cleveland Avenue from Winkler Avenue to SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard: Crews will be installing and relocating utilities and constructing.

Expect Johnson Street closed on the west side of US 41 / Cleveland Avenue.

Expect Braman Avenue closed on the east side of US 41 / Cleveland Avenue.

Expect Linhart Avenue closed on the east side of US 41 / Cleveland Avenue.

TRAFFIC SHIFT: Motorists should be prepared for a traffic shift switching northbound and southbound traffic from the west side to the east side of the roadway.

Motorists should expect side road closures from Winkler Avenue to Victoria Avenue throughout the duration of the project.

Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures and detours on US 41/Cleveland Avenue during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours Monday through Friday throughout the duration of the project.

Additional work includes installing drainage structures, pedestrian signals, upgrading signals and lighting, and resurfacing existing highway. The project will be constructed in three segments. Each segment will have most of the construction completed prior to moving to the next segment. Crews will work on the west side of the road initially and when that work is completed, they will shift to the east side of Cleveland Avenue/US 41. The expected project completion is late 2023.

US 41/Cleveland Avenue from Winkler Avenue to SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard: Crews will be installing and relocating utilities and constructing.

Expect Victoria Ave. closed on the east side of US 41 / Cleveland Avenue.

Expect Linhart Ave. closed on the east side of US 41 / Cleveland Avenue.

TRAFFIC SHIFT: Motorists should be prepared for a traffic shift switching northbound and southbound traffic from the west side to the east side of the roadway.

Motorists should expect side road closures from Winkler Avenue to Victoria Avenue throughout the duration of the project.

Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures and detours on US 41/Cleveland Avenue during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours Monday through Friday throughout the duration of the project.

Additional work includes installing drainage structures, pedestrian signals, upgrading signals and lighting, and resurfacing existing highway. The project will be constructed in three segments. US 41 from Bonita Beach Road to Pondella Road: Construction project: Crews will be improving the lighting systems at the following intersections along US 41: Bonita Beach Road, Center of Bonita Springs Plaza/Boston Road, West Terry Street, South Bay Drive, Bernwood Parkway, Timberwilde Drive, Pelican Landing Parkway, Sanibel Boulevard, Constitution Boulevard, Bell Tower Road, Big Pine Way, Crystal Drive, Palm Drive, Beacon Manor Drive, South Airport Road, Boy Scout Drive, Sam’s Plaza, North Airport Road, North Key Drive, Hancock Bridge Parkway, and Pondella Road.

Motorists should expect possible intermittent lane closures during daytime hours throughout the duration of the project.

Motorists should use caution as crews work alongside the roadway. Estimated project completion is fall 2023.

SR 865/San Carlos Boulevard at CR 869/Summerlin Road: There are no updates for hurricane work.

SR 865/San Carlos Boulevard at Pine Ridge Rd: Hurricane Ian maintenance project: Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures while crews perform repairs to the traffic controller cabinet. Police officers will be on site to direct traffic as needed. Please use caution and expect delays while traveling through this area.

SR 739/Metro Parkway at Daniels Parkway: Maintenance project: Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. while crews perform pipe/culvert maintenance. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

SR 867/McGregor Boulevard from Colonial Boulevard to College Parkway: Maintenance project: Crews will be trimming and removing palm trees on the north and southbound sides of McGregor.

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with flagging operations throughout the duration of the project.

Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

SR 82/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from Buckingham Road to Colonial Boulevard/Lee Boulevard: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent north and southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews construct turn lanes. Motorists should use caution while traveling in this area.

SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from SR 884/Colonial Boulevard to Wallace Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent outside eastbound lane closures while crews store debris near the roadway. Motorists should use caution while traveling in this area.

SR 31/Babcock Ranch Road from Shirley Lane to Greenway Boulevard: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound lane closures during daytime hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. while crews construct driveways in the area. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

US 41/SR 78: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound lane closures during daytime hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. while crews construct driveways in the area. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

S.R. 82 at Colonial / Lee Boulevard: Intersection resurfacing. FDOT will be milling and

resurfacing the intersection of SR 82 and Colonial/Lee Boulevard beginning Monday, August 14, through Friday, August 18, 2023.

Work will be done at night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists are advised to use caution and be aware that there will be lane closures during these times.

State Roadways (US 41, SR 31, SR 78, SR 80, SR 82, SR 739, SR 865, and SR 867): Maintenance contract project: Crews are sweeping curb and gutter on state roadways and bridges.  Motorists should expect lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic and possible delays.

SR 78/Burnt Store Road to Sandoval Parkway East and Westbound: Maintenance Project: Crews will be cleaning ditches and removing debris eastbound from Veteran’s Parkway to Sandoval Parkway August 14, to August 17, 2023. Crews will be cleaning ditches and removing debris Westbound from 3015 SW Pine Island Road (Publix Plaza) to Burnt Store Road from August 21 to August 25, 2023.

Motorists should expect lane closures during the daytime hours between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.

MANATEE COUNTY

I-75 at US 301 Interchange (Exit 224): Construction project: Project will widen the I-75 from SR 64 to the Manatee River, reconfigure the I-75/US 301 interchange from a partial cloverleaf interchange to a tight diamond configuration, construct new bridges will be constructed over the Manatee River for a northbound exit ramp and a southbound entrance ramp, and US 301 improvements. This week, crews will work on I-75 widening, drainage and utility work on US 301, and pile driving for the construction of the new southbound on-ramp bridge over the Manatee River and Salt Marsh Bridge.

Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 northbound during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction; double closures on I-75 southbound during the nighttime/overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 northbound during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the construction; double closures on I-75 southbound during the nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

Motorists should expect lane closures on US 301 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

Motorists should expect lane closures on Tidewater Preserve Boulevard through the duration of bridge construction.

Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and US 301 through the duration of the construction.

Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is early 2025.

I-275 at US 41 (Exit 2): Construction project: Project improvements include new traffic signal at I-275 southbound off-ramp and replacing traffic signal at I-275 northbound off-ramp, pedestrian accommodations, and resurfacing within project limits. This week, crews will work on light poles and signal components.

Motorists should expect single and double lane closures on US 41 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. bound through the duration of the construction.

Motorists should expect ramp closures at I-275 at US 41 during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-275 and US 41 through the duration of the construction.

Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is early 2024.

US 41 from 17th to Bayshore Road/ 26th Street, including the 23rd Street Roundabout, Palmetto: Construction: Work is underway so please use caution in the construction zone and be alert for construction equipment in the area. Construction crews will be working at the intersection of US 41 BUS and 23rd Street.

A lane shift is occurring so crews can begin work on the median. This will reduce lanes to one in each direction and will last for approximately two months. Right turns from 23rd Street will reopen.

Motorists can expect temporary daytime lane closures from north of 17th Street to just past 23rd Street throughout the duration of the project.

US 301 from 60th Avenue East to Erie Road / Old Tampa Road: Construction: Motorists can expect sign and handrail installation and remedial work as the project nears completion. Motorists can expect construction vehicles in and out of the right-of-way limits. The scheduled completion is in August of 2023.

US 301 from 25th Court East to 13th Avenue East: Construction Project: Starting this week, crews will begin a 7.6-mile improvements project consisting of milling and resurfacing the roadway, widening in areas, base work, curb and gutter, sidewalk, guardrail, drainage improvements, bridge expansion joints, signalization, lighting, and signing and pavement marking. The project’s expected completion is late 2024.

SR 64 from 43rd Street West to 15th Street East and from 10th Street West to 10th Street East: Construction project: Crews will begin the 1.7-mile resurfacing project through the City of Bradenton. Motorists can expect overnight lane closures from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and temporary lane closures when work requires. Expect noise and light from construction equipment. Motorists should add additional travel time for slow-moving traffic or consider an alternate route. Completion is slated for spring 2024.

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY

SR 70 at SE 10th Avenue: Driveway permit project: Crews are re-constructing sidewalks and modifying utilities. Watch for workers close to and in the roadway.

SE 28th Street (Charles Harvey Boulevard) from US 441 to southeast 18th Terrace: Construction project: Crews will make improvements to southeast 28th Street from US 441 to SE 18th Terrace. Improvements include construction of sidewalks on the north side of southeast 28th Street (Charles Harvey Boulevard). Crews will also reconstruct the roadway and driveways in various locations, improve drainage, and install signs and pavement markings.

Motorists should expect intermittent daytime shoulder closures on southeast 28th Street and southeast 32nd Street and intermittent nighttime lane closures between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on 28th Steet and southeast 32nd Street during construction.

Motorists should expect nighttime lane closures on southeast 28th Street while crews work in that area.

US 98 from north of northwest 80th Avenue to SR 70: Construction project: Crews will resurface the roadway on US 98 from north of northwest 80th Avenue to US 98. Additional work includes shoulder treatments, roadway reconstruction at the railroad, sidewalk, traffic signals and signing and pavement markers.

Motorists should expect intermittent daytime and nighttime single lane closures on US 98 from north of northwest 80th Avenue to US 98 and on SR 70 during construction.

POLK COUNTY

I-4 from CR 557/Old Glade Road (Exit 48) to Osceola County: Construction project: Crews will resurface I-4, upgrade or replace sections of guardrail and shoulder, install new signing and roadway pavement markings, and install vehicle detection systems and traffic monitoring sites at various locations. This week, crews will work on resurfacing.

Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-4 during nighttime/overnight hours:

Sundays through Thursdays: from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Fridays and Saturdays: from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-4 during nighttime/overnight hours:

Sundays through Thursdays: from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists should expect ramp closures on I-4 during nighttime/overnight hours from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

I-4 at SR/CR 557 Interchange (Exit 48): Construction project: This project includes reconstructing the interchange from an existing cloverleaf interchange to a diamond interchange with roundabouts at the ramps, replacing the two-lane bridge with a four-lane bridge, modifying SR 557 and I-4 within the interchange area and adding a new wildlife crossing under I-4. I-4 at CSX Railroad Bridge approximately 1200 feet west of Kathleen Road (Exit 31): Construction project: This project includes replacing the existing 250-foot bridge with two new 400-foot bridges to provide for CSX double tracking and will accommodate future expansion of I-4. This week the contractor will remove embankment requiring the eastbound exit ramp at Kathleen Road to be closed.

RAMP CLOSED: Eastbound exit ramp from I-4 to SR 539/Kathleen Road (Exit 32) will be closed during the day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, August 23 through Friday, August 25, 2023.

DETOUR: Eastbound motorists wanting to exit at Kathleen Road should follow the posted detour and exit at US 92 (Exit 28), head east to Wabash Avenue (US 92) then south to George Jenkins Boulevard (SR 600) then east to Kathleen Road (SR 539).

Follow the posted detour and expect minor delays.

US 98 from Mount Zion Road to east of Old Stokes Road and from Keller Road to west of Ridge Road: Construction project: Project improvements include removing the old asphalt and resurfacing, drainage and shoulder improvements, tree removal and guardrail repairs. This week the contractor will begin widening work along US 98 during the day and tree removal along the shoulders. Watch for daytime lane closures with flaggers directing traffic. US 17 from north of the CSX railroad bridge to South of Lunn Road in Fort Meade: Construction project: This project includes milling and resurfacing, widening for bike lanes at the right turn lanes, installing lighting, sidewalk and guardrail. Expect daytime lane closures in either direction as crews complete final items including pavement markings and miscellaneous sod repairs. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

US 17 from Spirit Lake Road to Bomber Road: Construction project: The improvements under this project include reconstructing the intersection of US 17 and Spirit Lake Road with concrete, milling and resurfacing, adding lighting, upgrading signal equipment, and relocating utilities.

Expect daytime northbound and southbound lane closures starting at 9 a.m. Monday, August 21, through Thursday night, August 24, 2023. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

The median opening at Spirit Lake Road/Airport Road will be closed for reconstruction from 7:30 p.m., Friday, August 25, through 6:30 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023.

Northbound motorists will be able to turn right into and right out of Airport Road but will have to detour to the next available median opening to make a U-Turn to head south and/or access Spirit Lake Road.

Southbound motorists will be able to turn right into and right out of Spirit Lake Road but will have to detour to the next available median opening to make a U-Turn to head north and/or access Airport Road.

US 17 at Crystal Beach Road: Construction project: Construction on this project includes closing the full median opening and building a directional median opening for drivers turning left to and from Crystal Beach Road, adding a northbound acceleration lane, widening the southbound right turn lane and separating it from the travel lanes, removing the southbound left turn lane and resurfacing the southbound lanes, replacing lighting and improving drainage features west of US 17. The contractor has reopened the median at Crystal Beach Road but may close it periodically as needed for final work at the intersection. When closed, motorists will travel to the next median opening to make a U-Turn in order to turn left into or out of Crystal Beach Road. US 17 from SR 544 (Havendale Boulevard) to Brigham Road: Construction project: Safety improvements on this project include adding 6-foot sidewalks along both sides of US 17, installing new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHB) Signals with a raised pedestrian median at New Beginnings High School, installing or repairing curb and gutter along both sides of US 17, modifying several existing driveways, upgrading transit stops, installing lighting and upgrading signal equipment and improving drainage. US 17/92 from Hinson Avenue to McKeown Avenue: Construction project: Project improvements include constructing a 14-foot-wide raised grass median with curb and gutter to replace the existing two-way left turn throughout the project limits, widening the northwest corner at the intersection of Hinson Avenue and US 17/92 to accommodate right turns for larger tucks, and constructing a directional median with left turn lanes, raised concrete median islands and traffic separators in both directions at Melbourne Avenue. This week crews will be continue constructing the median separators at night and performing widening work at the NW corner of US 17-92 and Hinson Ave. Watch for nighttime/overnight lane closures and workers close to the road.

US 17/92 (South Lake Shore Way) from US 17 to South Buena Vista Drive: Utility Project: Watch for periodic lane closures and workers close to the road as crews install poles and perform miscellaneous overhead work. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

US 27 at SR 60 Interchange: Construction project: Crews will replace the bridges carrying SR 60 over US 27 and reconstruct the interchange from a partial cloverleaf design to a Single Point Urban Interchange. Other improvements include widening the roadways from four lanes to six 11-foot lanes, bicycle lanes, curb and gutter, a closed drainage system, and six-foot sidewalks. Crews will construct an urban frontage road in the southwest quadrant along SR 60 for access to local businesses. The project also includes construction of a noise wall along SR 60 from South Miami Street to west of Sharp Street, resurfacing Central Avenue from west of US 27 to Miami Street, installing signals, lighting, signage and pavement markings on US 27 and SR 60. Daytime and nighttime lane closures will occur on US 27 and SR 60 during construction.

SR 570 (Polk Parkway) from I-4 to Old Dixie Highway: Construction project: Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise is converting an 18-mile portion of Polk Parkway/SR 570 to electronic tolling between I-4 and Old Dixie Highway/CR 546 in Polk County. This project includes constructing three new toll gantries at the Western Mainline (milepost 8), Central Mainline (milepost 13), and SR 540 New Mainline (milepost 15.5), removing cash toll collections and replacing them with SunPass and TOLL-BY-PLATE and demolishing the existing Western and Central Mainline toll plazas. This new stretch of roadway will begin at Polk Parkway/SR 570 and Winter Lake Road/SR 540 and extend approximately 6.5 miles to US 17/SR 35. SR 540 (Cypress Gardens Boulevard) from east of US 17 to west of 1st Street: Construction project: Improvements under this Contract consist of resurfacing US 17, SR 540 and 1st Street, adding turn lanes, lengthening existing turn lanes, replacing the temporary traffic separators with a permanent concrete traffic separator on SR 540, improving crosswalk striping and adding pedestrian countdown signals, upgrading signal equipment and replacing streetlights with LED lights. This week, crews will construct a curb and gutter, and earthworks for widening along US17 and SR 540.

SR 540 westbound approaching US 17 is reduced to a single through lane/right and left turn lanes and single left turn lane through early September while crews work on drainage. Motorists should use caution and expect some delays.

SR 540 eastbound will be reduced to one lane from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday, August 20, to Friday, August 25, 2023.

Eastbound Avenue R southwest will be reduced to one through/left and right turn lane at the intersection at US 17 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday, August 20, to Friday, August 25, 2023.

This week, crews will work on the ramps, retaining walls, and paving the I-75 shoulders.

Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. bound through the duration of the construction.

US 41 South between South Palm Avenue and Hudson Avenue: Permit project: Through the end of September 2023, crews will be working at the Marie Selby Gardens extending existing turn lanes, adding right turn lanes, making drainage improvements, adding signalization improvements, landscaping improvements, street lighting improvements and signing and pavement improvements. Motorists should expect temporary inside and outside lane closures as well as overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Please use particular caution in the area and watch for pedestrians, bicyclists and workers.

US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point: Construction: Construction on the next phase along a 1.4-mile area of US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point Road has begun. Work consists of implementing safety improvements along the corridor, including resurfacing, lighting and signalization, median improvements, improved drainage, shoulder reconstruction, improved sidewalks, improved bicycle lanes, and curb and gutter improvements.

Crews will remain focused on drainage and earthwork.

Most work should be in the FDOT right of way, off the main roadway.

US 41 at Macewan and Osprey: Construction: Motorists can expect intermittent, temporary lane closures both north and south bound for drill shaft work.

US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue Roundabout: Landscaping project: A separate contract is supporting the landscaping of the area and will take approximately four months. Lane closures will be during overnight hours, and noise from landscaping vehicles and lighting are to be expected.

US 41 at Wellen Park Village Roundabouts: Permit project: A lane shift is in place for approximately six (6) months. Consider alternate routes or add additional travel time during peak hours.

SR 777 River Road from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Motorists can expect pond excavation near Venice Avenue and just north of Rambler’s Rest RV Park on the northbound roadway. Embankment activities continue on the southbound roadway from US 41 to Stoney Creek Boulevard. Drainage structure and pipe installation will also continue throughout the project. Signal and lighting work is also on-going throughout the project. Trucks will be crossing the road at various locations using intermittent flagging operations.

SR 758 Midnight Pass from Stickney Point to Shadow Lawn Way: Construction project: Work is underway for a 1.6-mile roadway and safety improvement project on Midnight Pass Road (SR 758) from Stickney Point Road (SR 72) to Shadow Lawn Way in Sarasota County. Work will consist of milling and resurfacing, shoulder/turn lane widening, sidewalk replacement, drainage improvements, signing and pavement markings, and signal and lighting improvements. Project completion is expected by fall 2023.

Overnight milling and resurfacing will continue.

Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists should use caution due to uneven pavement.

Work will start at approximately 8 p.m. depending on traffic levels and go until approximately 5 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations. Allow extra time.

Expect noise/ light from construction equipment throughout the duration.

Temporary lane closures or flagging operations could be necessary throughout the duration of the project.

SR 681 from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Crews are completing the placement of silt fence along the 2.8 stretch of roadway in preparation for construction. The resurfacing project will also improve drainage, provide a cross-slope correction for leveling and comfort, new guardrail, updated signing and marking, install intelligent transportation equipment and signalization.

Paving on the project has started so motorists should expect temporary lane closures for the duration of the project.

During resurfacing of the highway, on- and off-ramps will require limited overnight detours.

Noise from construction equipment should be anticipated for the duration.

SR 72 from Honore to Beneva Road: Permit project: Crews will be performing overnight Pavement Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) operations from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should expect intermittent east bound outside lane closures on SR 72.
